This is a list of questions and answers that commonly come up. This list will grow over time.
How do I get started?
To get started, read this FAQ, and then click here to purchase service. Once we receive your information, you will be set up with your own WordPress site or FTP access and a MySQL database to create your own site. Before you purchase service with us, come up with a domain name (if you don’t plan to use ours). If you go to our Domain Availability tool, see whether or not the domain name name you want is available.
If you would like for us to register your domain and manage the DNS configuration for you, please visit the sign up page and add domain registration to the cart. If you would like to manage the domain and DNS for yourself, feel free to find a domain registrar and manage the DNS yourself.
How much does hosting cost?
Please see our sign up page for pricing information.
Do I need to know HTML or any other programming language?
The beauty of WordPress is that you do not need to know HTML to have a website. Making your website your own in WordPress is as simple as sending an email. If you plan on designing your own website, then yes, knowing how to write in HTML code would be beneficial.
How do I set up my domain so that it points to the KASL Network web servers?
You need to have your domain registrar point their nameservers to our nameservers. See this link.
How can I learn HTML? Is it hard?
HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is a very simple coding language. There are tutorials all over the internet. Go to the search engines and search for “HTML Tutorial” and I am sure you will find plenty of help.
Do I need to back up my files, or does KASL Network do it for me?
Making backups of your own files is always a good idea. You cannot blame anybody else for losing your files. However, we do make offsite backups throughout the day. Our backup system works like this:
On a backup server, a cron daemon runs a script which connects to the production server file storage. Once it is connected, it stores the user files, website files, and a backup of the databases, and stores them all in a directory. At this point, it creates a compressed archive of this directory and downloads it locally to itself. Individual backups are stored for 30 days.
I have no web design experience. I don’t know how to write in HTML. What do you recommend?
Let us install WordPress for you – it is an open source website with all kinds of features to help you do whatever you want with your website. There is a bit of a learning curve, but we’re here to help you get around it. It is rewarding to learn WordPress and make everything look the way you want.
Can I host pictures and videos on my website?
Absolutely, however nothing that contains illegal content is permitted to be on our servers, and copyrighted content is only permitted as long as there is permission from it’s owner. If you decide to host a lot of pictures and videos and intend to have high amounts of visitors (in the thousands or more per day), please contact me using the contact form so that I can set you up with a higher performance data storage solution (which will most likely not cost much more than we already use).
How much disk space can I use?
As much as you want – however space is only allowed for data that is part of a website. This means that you cannot use our storage as a cloud backup system.
Can I get a refund if I cancel service?
If you are not pleased with our service, let us know and we will refund hosting costs on a case-by-case basis. Domain registration is non-refundable – period. Month-to-month web hosting is not pro-rated, however refunds will be granted for payment of future un-used months.
Payments and Subscriptions
KASL Network payments are made via PayPal automatic monthly subscriptions. This ensures that you never miss a payment, and that you are always ultimately in control of your subscription – meaning that you can cancel at any time. The first month is a free trial – meaning you don’t have to pay until you have had service for one month. The 1 month free trial is automatically a part of your subscription which means you don’t pay anything up front. Next month you will have your first payment automatically applied via your PayPal subscription.
Usage of the kaslnetwork.com domain
If you do not own a domain (site.com), you may use a kaslnetwork.com subdomain (i.e. mysite.kaslnetwork.com). If this is what you choose, simply put mysite.kaslnetwork.com in the domain name field on the registration page. Any site that slanders, interrupts, or performs any mischievous activity of any kind can and will be terminated without warning.
Any website with illegal, immoral or unethical content will be shut down, your money for the current month will be refunded, and your subscription will be cancelled.
